Micro-businesses: successful options to employment

After observing the artistic ability of our individuals, NorthPointe decided to explore unique opportunities for enhancement of these endeavors.

We have developed a micro-enterprise business for individuals interested in creating jewelry.  Micro-enterprise opportunities can, and are, being used as a therapeutic tool within person centered planning; as it provides flexibility, offers networking avenues into the community, and increases feelings of worth and emotional equity.

Since April 2009, eight individuals have been learning basic business practices and have been creating bracelets, anklets and key chains.  Individuals "bought" into this opportunity, so all the proceeds from items sold, go back to the individual who made the item. The business has had items on display and for sale at the VOLO Car Show on July 4, 2009, the Zion Farmer's Market in August of 2009.  Most recently the business was at Jubilee Days in Zion on Sunday September 6.  The business sold 32 items!

We will continue to expand programs in the area of fine arts that reveal participants creativity and passion for their work.
